Some typical, pleasant enough songs & yodels by several 1950s country artists who were obviously very much influenced by the "Singing Brakeman"/"Blue Yodeler". The bulk of the 24 tracks are by three artists: Riley Crabtree, Al Runyon, and Alan Moore (billed as "America's New Blue Yodeler"). Runyon made a series of at least 11 Rodgers songs for the Kentucky label, and Crabtree (who later recorded for Columbia) is heard on 5 tracks from the scarce Talent label. Moore's 4 songs are taken from the Crystal label. The repertoire here includes 7 of Jimmie's Blue Yodels, plus other favorites like WAITING FOR A TRAIN, T.B. BLUES, DADDY & HOME, IN THE JAILHOUSE NOW, HOBO BILL and TRAVELING BLUES. These renditions won't exactly replace Rodgers' originals, but they do remind us of the powerful influence that Jimmie's music had on rural musicians right through the 1930s, 40s, and 50s.
