"Fixing to turn 80, Bryan Bowers, the best-known Autoharp player for the past half-century, took the chorded zither as a lead instrument to main stages at the largest roots festivals. Using his typical choice of material on his first release in a dozen years, Bowers modified his established approach by working as a trio with Danny Knicely and Geoff Goodhue. While Bowers plays “Gold Watch and Chain” solo, the other three instrumentals sound exactly like you expect his Autoharp backed by mandolin and mandocello, Whether with instruments or acapella, most of Woodland Dream displays Bowers’ innovation - the trio’s full throated vocal approach, which reminds me of the Red Clay Ramblers’ harmonies back in the day." - Art Menius
